Triumphant Medway winners with Vic Window from Veolia

When it comes to walking to school St Andrew’s School in Rochester is the tops.
It has not only been voted the top walking bus in Medway but has beaten off competition to be the best in Kent.

The school’s commitment to taking car journeys off the roads was recognised at the KM Walk to School Awards at the Corn Exchange in Rochester.

Simon Dolby, chairman of the KM Charity Team, which runs walk to school schemes said nearly every child at St Andrew’s uses the bus.

“The dedication of volunteers is exceptional and the existence of the scheme has knock-on benefits for the community.

“Such exceptional commitment shared by all at the school has won them the award of Top Walking Bus 2009.”
The Medway Messenger also picked up an award on the night, with news editor Sarah Clarke receiving a media award for the newspaper’s support of walk to school schemes.

Guests at the awards night included schools, parents and sponsors and they were entertained by X Factor finalist Ben Mills.
